They have now been split them into two separate Metropolitan Statistical Areas labeled Raleigh-Cary and Durham-Chapel Hill. However they still function as one Research Triangle metropolitan area. My MIL moved here from another facility and we are very pleased. The staff is attentive, friendly and engaged and my MIL is well cared for. The surrounding area has 1,112,065 residents, but there are 53,078 residing in the city.
Your photo ID was never checked nor where badges given to visitors to wear. I only signed in on the first day and walked right past the desk the following 6 days. One afternoon, I decided to explore the entire facility. Given the current climate of our society and our concern with elder abuse and violence to large facilities, this place is scary!!! Anyone can enter this facility and go anywhere they want including patient rooms and do heaven knows what to the patients without being noticed or questioned. I was scared to death for my mothers safety.

When I left I was told she would call me and she never did. That was the last day I saw my mom conscious. She was admitted to Wake Med the following day for low vitals and passed soon there after.
My mother was there for rehabilitation to build up her strength after being released from the hospital. While there, she was continuously fed a high sodium diet. When we complained about her swelling, we were ignored. She gained over 35 pounds while there in a short period . Dr. James would not return one single call!
The rehab people did an excellent job with her knee and arm. Everybody was very pleasant, and the nurses were very helpful. My mother has been a resident here for the past several years after being a resident at another local facility. We are very happy with the staff , and find the management extremely receptive to comments. They've taken very good care of my mother and she has stated many times that she wouldn't like to be anywhere else.

Overall no one seemed overly concerned but me and acted like I was over reacting and seemed inconvenienced by my inquiries. I even hung around for 2 hours one morning to see the Nurse Practitioner visit my mom. I was told she knew I was there waiting but she never showed.
Some of the other reviews stated that the rooms were roach infested. My Mom was in 3 different rooms (overflow on her first night there, rehab & skilled nursing) during her stay and I never saw one roach or bug of any kind. The staff treated her like she was one of their own. I even watched one nurse kiss my Mom on the forehead. Yes, people wander the halls, wandering the halls is good execise for the patients and it beats lying in a bed all day. My Mom ended up passing away while at Hillside and the staff/Hospice were outstanding!

My mother was in Hillside for two weeks for rehab. The rehab was very good, but I won't recommend the nursing home side. She had a horrible experience when she was placed there because they didn't have a room in rehab. The food was very unappetizing and did not smell very good. When she was transferred to the rehab room, it was very nice, private, and had a TV.
